The Dark Knight Rises must have been the most awaited release for moviegoers everywhere. Ending Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises lived up to its hype. The aftermath of the Joker’s (played by deceased Heath Ledger) plan continues in The Dark Knight Rises where fallen hero and alleged villain Harvey Dent/Two Face (played by Aaron Eckhart) left the city of Gotham with the Harvey Dent Act which succeeded in wiping out organized crime in the city. Times were looking good and a Batman didn’t seem to have a purpose for the city anymore after having taken the blame for kidnapping Lt. Gordon’s (played by Gary Oldman) family which was actually Harvey’s doing. The movie introduces one of the more popular female antagonists of the Batman series, Catwoman (played by Anne Hathaway.) We find Batman (played by Christian Bale) struggling between vigilance and lying low when a new threat reaches the city. A mercenary named Bane sets out to finish the job of the League of Shadows which believed Gotham had reached its turning point and its reckoning had been overdue since the first film where the Scarecrow (played by Cillian Murphy) tried to poison the whole city with a hallucinogen. The musical score by Hans Zimmer does a remarkable job in giving this movie the ground-breaking suspense that makes it a true work of art. All in all, the movie came to gross over 903 million dollars world wide becoming the 17th highest grossing film of all time and second highest grossing film of the year just behind Marvel’s Avengers. Despite the tragic shoot out that happened in Colorado where a masked man named James Holmes killed twelve people and injured 58 others at the premier. The movie was delayed release in Paris, Japan, and Mexico due prior to the accident. Christian Bale did visit the victims at the hospital in a very appreciative act of kindness.
