The Super Bowl brings about 111 million viewers to their screens every year, but not every one of them is a sports fanatic or athlete enthusiast. In fact I myself don’t watch the season but just wait for the Super Bowl. What brings me to join the family is not just the food, chips, and drinks but the commercials. It cost a lot of money to advertise during this now traditional American past time. 3.5 million dollars is NBC’s charge for a 30 second slot. Even in the first Super Bowl of 1967 a commercial slot would have cost you 42,000. Highlights of this year’s ads were obviously the upcoming movies. While watching I saw a new trailer for Iron Man 3 and also one for Disney’s prequel to The Wizard of Oz entitled, Oz: The Great and Powerful. Good bye vampires, hello zombies. Yes zombies are the theme for 2013. We find Brad Pitt in the zombie apocalypse movie entitled, World War Z, and the hot rods and Michelle Rodriguez are back for the next installed The Fast and the Furious series. Some commercials came about more awkwardly this year than usual. For starters Go Daddy didn’t disappoint again with having dames on set but this year they could have taken it a little too far. Being in a room with the family watching Danica Patrick suck face with Bar Refaeli must have been an all-time new level of awkward for many viewers. Not to mention the whole “where do babies come from” Kia commercial where the dad rambles on about a planet full of babies was also a little awkward. The even more weird humanoid women commercial that told us nothing about the Kia model totally felt out of place as well. All courtesy of the Super Bowl XLVII, new commercials include awkward and a whole lot of Hollywood to look forward to this year.
