Marked is a drama-filled supernatural romance novel that follows the journey of young, fledgling Zoey Redbird. Marked is written by the talented P.C. and Kristen Cast, who have written one of New York’s best-selling authors. Zoey dreads the day she is marked by the tracker and forced to join the House of Night and soon on her way to becoming a full-fledged vampire. Zoey soon realizes she is not like a regular fledgling as her powers begin to develop and her “mark”, a hollow crescent moon all fledglings get, is filled in before she even joins the House of Night. Though the head of the popular crowd Aphrodite takes notice as well and will do anything to make sure she keeps in good graces with the high priestess of the school Nerfet. It does not help that Aphrodite’s ex- boyfriend Erik Night begins to take interest in Zoey and she returns the interest. Zoey begins to just settle in making new friends when things start to go wrong. With things going astray, Zoey decides to cast her own circle and ask the Goddess Nyx for help. She ends up discovering that she can control the four elements — earth, fire, air, and water— as well as the element of spirit. Aphrodite takes it to the extremes during the Samhain Ritual, which marks the end of “harvest” and the beginning of winter. With the circle cast the leader of the exclusive Dark Daughters and Sons club, Aphrodite, things take a turn for the worst when she sets a set of nasty spirits free on Zoey’s ex-boyfriend Heath. The author elaborates immensely on the details throughout the book, describing each eventful problem that occurs. The series continues on with 8 books in total, the next one being named Betrayed. I highly recommend these books to anyone that is looking for a thrill.
