Hail, Caesar Movie Review 2016

Lydia Salonis, Reporter

For everyone who is obsessed with the ‘50’s, time to celebrate! Hail, Caesar is Ethan and Joel Coen’s new 50’s period comedy drama. For those who don’t know who the Coen brothers are, they directed Fargo and The Big Lebowski, with writing credits to Bridge of Spies and Unbroken. Hail, Caesar features George Clooney (Gravity), Channing Tatum (22 Jump Street), Josh Brolin (Men in Black 3), and Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), with Jonah Hill (This is the End) making a cameo. The year is 1951 in Hollywood, the film follows real-life fixer Eddie Mannix (Brolin) working at the fictional Capitol Studios trying to figure out what to an actor (Clooney) who disappears during filming.

Hail, Caesar was good for the most part. Good acting, interesting characters. The characters for example, such as George Clooney and Scarlett Johansson characters, resemble real-life actor and actress Esther Williams and Kirk Douglas throughout the movie along with other characters. The movie also was an accurate portrayal with its setting and Hollywood golden age. It also gave insight on what an actual movie set/production is like and all the sneaky things the directors and actors do and in this case, a fixer.

The film also touches on a little bit on Communism. And I can’t forget the tap dancing scene with Channing Tatum and perhaps the most memorable and amusing scene in the whole film.

The film is rated PG-13 and is due out in theaters on February 5th.
