Sabrina Carpenter, widely known for her role in ‘Girl Meets World,’ has given us more music, and this time it’s in with the theme of Christmas.
Sabrina Carpenter has been an actress since 2010 with a guest role in Law and Order. As a kid, Carpenter would post videos of herself singing Christina Aguilera and Adele songs, starting at the age of 10. She released singles over the years, like ‘Silver Nights,’ ‘Smoke and Fire,’ and other originals and covers of other songs from Girl Meets World.
Sabrina Carpenter’s debut album was titled Eyes Wide Open and dropped in 2015, and her sophomore album ‘EVOLution’ followed the next year. Then, between 2018-2019, she released ‘Singular Act I’ and ‘Singular Act II.’
However, her success in music burst when she released a single titled ‘Skin’ about another pop star, Olivia Rodrigo. Soon after she released her hit album ‘emails i can’t send’ in 2022, then the same album with four bonus songs, ‘emails i can’t send fwd:.’
And, most recently on November 17th, 2023, Carpenter dropped an EP titled ‘fruitcake’ with 6 Christmas songs. The first song on the record is titled ‘A Nonsense Christmas,’ which is a spin-off of a song in her recent album titled ‘Nonsense.’ The version on the EP has the same meaning, but the lyrics are more Christmas-themed.
The second track is titled ‘buy me presents,’ and the third ‘santa doesn’t know you like i do.’ The fourth is titled ‘cindy lou who,’ the fifth is ‘is it new years yet?’ and, finally, the sixth is titled ‘white xmas’ (which is a cover).
Fruitcake is a light and cheery EP and is meant to show off her “playful personality.” Most listeners agree with this, too. ‘cindy lou who’ is the main song on the EP that has a deeper meaning to it than just a light-hearted Christmas song or a love song (as two of the songs on the record are). While the six songs’ lyrics don’t have as much of a hit to them as the songs on ‘emails i can’t send’ did, it is still perfect to listen to if you’re looking to get into the Christmas spirit and it is obvious that Carpenter is just looking for some “holiday fun” with these songs (as stated by a fan review).
Nevertheless, if you enjoy jolly and upbeat Christmas songs, ‘fruitcake’ is the EP for you.
