The new Priscilla movie digs into the fascinating story of her relationship with Elvis Presley. This movie is based on the book that Priscilla wrote herself, “Elvis and Me.” It all began with Priscilla’s father and Elvis being stationed in Germany. One of Elvis’ friends went up to Priscilla and asked if she would like to meet Elvis Presley. She was 14 and he was 24 years old at the time they first started seeing each other.
Elvis had to go back to America after spending a few months in Germany, and Priscilla never thought she would see him again. But they stayed in touch, and Priscilla moved in with him her senior year of high school. She was enrolled in an all-girls school, and her father said she must graduate. Though Priscilla was living in Elvis’ house, he was away for most of her senior year. Priscilla had to stay with Elvis’ father because she needed parental supervision.
After a few years of living together, Elvis proposed, and they were married when she was 21. They both wanted a very private wedding. Shortly after getting married, Priscilla got pregnant, at only the age of 21. After Priscilla became a mother, Presley didn’t find her attractive because of “the high standard that he had for mothers”.
Priscilla was always suspicious of Elvis cheating while he was away, and she would find small notes from other women in the pockets of his jackets. Elvis was also very abusive. When Priscilla would bring up these notes he would turn everything around on her, and once even asked her to go to her parent’s house. Elvis invited her into a studio to listen to one of the new songs he was producing. He asked for her opinion on the song, but when Elvis didn’t hear what he wanted, he threw a chair almost directly at her.
At 28, Priscilla finally felt like enough was enough, and worked up the courage to leave Elvis. This was not easy for her, but she knew it was the right thing to do.
