HellsGate Haunted House is located at 301 W. 2nd street Lockport, IL. Originally it all started back in the early 1900’s. Capt. John Flag Moorstone, was the founder of the cemetery which the Haunted house is built on. Hell’s Gate first started becoming known in the late 1990’s, Over the years it has skyrocketed in popularity. HellsGate has been extremely successful these past years, and is one of the most favorite haunted houses in Illinois. Back then during the year 1919, the “Lost Souls Cemetery” was founded by Capt. John Flag Moorstone who was a European immigrant who had a desire to create a final resting place for the dead. He had decided to come to Illinois because he saw an opportunity to honor the dead, He decided to create a Cemetery for the unwanted. By the current state’s Governor, Frank O Lowden, After all of the negotiating he was granted his desire in making the cemetery.
Hellgate has a huge amount of everything! It is usually always filled with people eager to get a taste of the haunted house! The best days to go are usually on a Tuesday or Sunday. But any other day is flooding with people. The line alone would take about 10-15 minutes. It goes by very quickly and before you know it you are at the front of the line! You need to go through an abandoned haunted cemetery in order to get to the actual haunted house. Once you go into the house you are led to the dark room, that is when the real scares start!
