Scrooged is the number one Christmas movie according to USA Today, and is directed by Richard Donner. Donner created other widely known pieces such as the Lethal weapon franchise, Assassins, Maverick, and Conspiracy Theory to name a few.
Now, to the movie. Frank Cross played by Bill Murray is a TV executive who may have an attitude problem. His TV station is making a TV special of a Christmas Carol, and since Frank Cross is the modern day scrooged, he is visited by three ghosts. This happens because he fired the newly-hired co-worker Eliot Loudermilk played by Bobcat Goldthwaite. The outcome is now a direct result of how he treats people during the holidays, and Frank now has to reevaluate his whole life; including his past love life with Claire Phillips played by Karen Allen. This is one of Bill Murray’s critically acclaimed films, as he gives you a top notch performance. It has dry smart-alecky humor as well as a serious, almost dramatic performance.
The overall tone is creepy, happy, and funny, as it’s a new spin on Charles Dickens classic ‘A Christmas Carol’. The movie truly shows how Bill Murray can make a role funny and also serious, while Karen Allen does a good job as the once girlfriend of jerk Frank Cross. The movie’s overall message is great; no matter who you are, people can change, but they just need to see it for themselves. Musically, this movie has one of the best title songs “Put a Little Love In Your Heart“ by Al Green and it has had 7,298,210 streams yearly. The special effects are superb in this movie when it needs to scare you, as well as the special effects and makeup team. The movie’s rating is PG-13, and for this rating it is funny, heartfelt and serious when needed. This is definitely a Christmas movie you should watch every Christmas due to the many quotable lines and great acting. I give this movie three gold bars: good acting, great special effects, and good directing. I will see you the next time you want to come back to the movies!
