Joliet Township High School had a very strict electronics rule for many years, but this year they’ve changed the rule. Students are now allowed to have electronic devices, such as: phones, iPods, and laptops, in school. They can’t use them during class hours unless the teacher permits it. Some students have been in this school for 3 years with the other strict rules about electronics, but now with this new rule some feel it is a great idea.
Students always had their phones and such with them anyway, so the security had to waste their time, preventing students from using phones, which is a total waste. Students are now allowed to use their phones and know that they have the privilege to use it at a designated time they are more likely to obey the rules and pay attention so as not to have their privilege revoked. It is also think it’s a great idea to encourage the use of electronics. Times are changing and the human race is becoming a more advanced culture work places and schools everywhere are making the switch to electronics and it’s important to get students acclimated to using electronics as their main source.
There are a few down sides to this new rule, some students like to take advantage of this rule and use their phones when they are not supposed to. This can create a distraction to not only the student using the phone or electronic, but also to others around them. Another problem is that this could possibly encourage cyber bullying; teens will now have access to the internet and the ability to take embarrassing photo, which is against the school rules. Hopefully the students learn to be respectful of one another and not get this privilege revoked from people who are obeying the rules.
