A new rule this year to Joliet Township states that students must pay off all debt to the school in order to buy a Homecoming ticket, or any event at that. Students may owe the school because of student I.D, or gym uniform rentals. The money adds up quickly.
A past rule at Joliet Township is that students must pay off all debt by graduation or they will not graduate on time. This gives student four years to pay off anything they owe, and most wait until last minute to do so. This new rule will encourage students to pay off their debt quickly and in return go to school events, such as dances. This will teach the students the responsibility with money.
However, some students owe a lot of money that can be paid off, but not in time for Homecoming. This rule is unfair because the upperclassmen didn’t pay everything right away, thinking they had four years. Now the district wants the students to pay it off right away. Seniors have four years of debt to pay off in little time; it might not be enough time to get the money. Most parents won’t give their child the money they need in order to go to homecoming.
The new rule has both a positive and negative affect towards students and will hopefully encourage students to pay off their debt quickly.
