Mustaches and beards were once something that was not in style. They were something for people who were not clean or well-groomed. This was only a style worn by those who did not care, but what happened? Mainstream culture of today has adopted the messy look of mustaches and beards. The idea of beards is now something that is stylish and worn by both the ‘classy’ and the ‘slouches’. Throughout the decades the idea that those with facial hair are dirty and do not care has changed, and it is now used as a fashion statement by the men skilled enough to grow them. Mustache culture has grown beyond the face of the men growing them and become a sort of statement. Mustache culture is something that was originally a hipster style until it became mainstream. Mustaches and beards were adapted into the hipster sub-culture due to the way that they are viewed in western society. Mustaches, beards and facial hair are typically associated with creepy teens and creepy adults, but in the hipsters eyes it is a way to stand out and go against the flow. Like any non-mainstream style though, the more it is seen the more popular it becomes, which destroys the original intent of the mustache culture. Beyond growing the mustaches the culture has grown to include almost anything and everything. From fake stick on mustaches to shirts, shorts, necklaces, you name it, there is a mustache on it. The fascination with the mustache is a new thing in the western world and will hopefully be fading out soon. While the facial hair itself is not a problem, not going a day without seeing it plastered on something other than a face is.
