Today’s slang words have evolved at quite a fast pace and sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the lingo of today’s younger generation. Going from “groovy” to “rad” and now to “dope” all of these words’ overall meaning is that something is cool or relevant. Most kids these days know the words and their meanings and use them on a daily basis. Most kids that are up with the pop culture of today refer to people that they like or are in a relationship with as “Bae” which basically means Before Anyone Else. For example, last weekend I heard my fourteen year old sister refer to Zayne Malik as Bae. Another popular phrase that you can often hear in the halls of this high school is that something is “on fleek” or “on point” meaning the something about you looks really fantastic, your eyebrows could be on fleek or they look well-trimmed or filled in. going off of something being “on fleek” someone who is unoriginal or mainstream and only interested in popular things is considered to be a basic person. Not everyone enjoys clinginess and desperation that a person can put out, and a person who is desperate or over eager is considered to be thirsty. Looking at this collection of bizarre words that our generation has created we have to feel bad for parents who can barely understand present day slang. Most parents I know are still stuck in the “Groovy” and “Totally rad” stages of slang from the seventies and eighties.
