As the season begins to shift and a cold winter steadily approaches, I know many students can get bored sitting at home during the winter with seemingly nothing to do. However, Joliet is home to many warm and cozy indoor places to stop at. Downtown is very much at the forefront of this. If you’re looking for something good to eat; stop by Jitters on Chicago Street for a steaming cup of coffee or baked goods. The vibe of this place is always amazing with its dim mood lighting, art pieces on the walls, and its atmospheric music.
Just across the street stands our historic public library with its broad selection of books and beautiful limestone architecture, which was established as early as 1876, It is also offering a showing of The Nutcracker on December 16th through the 17th for the holidays.
On Van Buren, Audiophils sits right next to our Rialto Theater. Audiophils is a small record store with a wide range of artists, from vintage to modern artists, and a collection of CDs to choose from. The staff is always accommodating; it’s so easy to get lost in the vinyl and spend hours in this store.
Heading back over to Chicago Street, not all that far off from Audiophils, is a thrift store called Prison City Vintage; a vintage thrift store where every piece is handpicked by the owners with reasonable prices for its plethora of vintage garments. The pieces found in this store vary from many different clothing styles and accessories. The music played in this store always sets a great tone while shopping. Considering there are always new items coming into the store. It’s always a great place to check out. You’ll never know what you will find. Even though the weather is getting colder that doesn’t mean you have to stay at home all day. If you pay close enough attention you can come to appreciate all our historic downtown has to offer.
