Held at JCHS’ auditorium, the veterans assembly was a hit. The yearly event took place November 8, 2024. This event was held to inform people what doing service is like, and to honor those who did. The event was from 3:20–4:30. They honored the soldiers who had unfortunately passed by playing their specific song for their branch of work in the army. They also honored the staff at JCHS that have served.
To keep everything organized, the event happens every year, the week of Veterans Day. This event is held during the student’s eighth period. Teachers decide if their class will attend.
During the event, JCHS’ Band, Choir, and ROTC members participate to help honor and respect soldiers and veterans. The following staff members who served the country before coming to JTHS are Eileen Bogle, Gardner Coughlin, Mark Dunn, Sandra Green, Brian Furczyk, Phillip Jayko, Calvin Lee, Gary McClellan, Ashley Rangel, and Nicholas Zorn. “I thought it was lovely how they took the time to honor people that went through it and what they achieved. It was very detailed and was great to know that staff from JCHS had done service”, said Vanelia Rodriguez, an attendee at the JCHS veterans assembly.
This event will continue to be held yearly. Students and teachers love the event because it honors those who aren’t here today and helps honor the ones who are. The soldiers find the event successful and special to them because it recognizes them.
Schools everywhere try to have an informational and exciting event on Veterans Day just like JCHS. JCHS invites students, Alumni, veterans, and the community to participate and come if available.
Overall, the Veterans Assembly is a great event to attend. It helps the community band together to honor those serving and who have already served. Many look forward to experiencing it again next school year.
