Helping students achieve success after high school, giving them essential tools, and resources for a Post-Secondary life are all part of the College & Career Center.
The College & Career Planning Department guides students and parents to plan for life after high school, offering advice on tests, career options, and financial aid. The center is located at Central in room 279.
The College & Career Planning Department is about helping students explore different options after high school, like college or jobs. Students can engage in clubs, internships, and other activities. Ms Martinez said, “Many of our students are first generation (the first in the family to go to college or graduate) so they don’t have the right information to plan their post-high school, especially the children of immigrant parents because colleges in Latin America are very different, and the parents can’t help their children because they don’t know the information; We help to give information.”
SchoolLinks, a platform in which students get help tracking their goals, exploring career interests, and requesting letters of recommendation.”They have a new platform (schoolinks) that has many types of activities that help you understand what type of person you are and your skills to guide you in your career.” The state also launched an alternative application for financial aid to support students who are not eligible. Ms. Martinez said, “Students think that everything ends in high school, but everything starts from the first year of high school. GPA is very important because depending on that GPA will give you access to different colleges and universities.”
Getting involved in clubs and extracurricular activities is a very crucial part of life after high school. “That’s another part of the process, colleges see what kind of student you were in high school, It helps you connect with students and the community in school, and develop skills that help you after you graduate, making you be responsible, more confident; skills that are not taught in the classroom.”
Students are motivated to begin considering their future paths early in high school, using resources that they provide to explore their different options.
