On Sunday, March 10th, 2024, time will jump an hour ahead until November 3rd because of daylight savings time. This change in time is important because without it, many areas would not see the sunrise until long after most people are out of bed and off to work or school.
Purposed in 1895, George Hudson presented a paper to the WellingtonPhilosophical Society that set out a two-hour shift forward in October and a two-hour shift back in March. A BBC journalist India Bourke stated that “ there were more insects out there than he had available daylight hours in which to hunt them, ” which was the reason for creating daylight savings time.
This time change has many alternatives and some benefits. It saves energy during daylight savings time ( DST ) and minimizes dark winter mornings during standard time ( ST ). In other words, there are some good and bad things about time but it is very helpful for communities.
On a more related note, daylight savings will be making its return on March 9th in the Chicago area. This means that the city will experience 12 hours of daylight and the sunset will occur just after 7 p.m.
