It was an amazing night Thursday, October 23rd in the Joliet Central Field House at the Steelmen Marching Band concert, which took place in the field house. The band was led by two drum majors, Maria Martinez and Jalen Jones who stood at the top of the bleachers to direct the students. The band played a variety of songs, from Stevie Wonder to Katy Perry. At one point, the Drumline came forth to perform, and they captured the attention of the audience as they played an outstanding piece which got the crowd clapping in rhythm.
About halfway through the performance Mr. Fisk, the band director, announced a short break for the performers. The band paused in a dramatic pose of relief, with upmost humor that got the crowd roaring in laughter. From here, Mr. Fisk announced the good news that the band received brand new Yamaha equipment and that the band deserved it especially after playing more than ever this year. “It has been the 103rd band of Joliet Central” said Mr. Fisk. “I love these guys; they worked really hard.” he added. One member of the band said “We all did really good, and practiced for both 4th and 8th periods. I’m so proud of everyone.”
Towards the end of the concert Mr. Fisk gave a heartwarming speech to Principle Randich and announced that the Band performed at the Joliet Central Flyover. At the flyover, they dedicated songs to the principal for almost more than 30 years of being a Steelmen. The band ended with the “Joliet Loyalty” song which made many Joliet Central students in the crowd sing along and stand in honor. It was a spectacle worthwhile to see in person, and the band was better than ever!
