Sounds of the Season took place on Sunday, December 7th at Joliet Central. The auditorium was decorated festively as family and friends in the community attended this event to celebrate the holidays. Mr. Jones and his 3 choirs have been prepping for this performance and received their singing pieces immediately after the musical in early November. Mr. Lipari led his Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra in everyone’s favorite holiday songs. Mr. Fiske led the band as everyone enjoyed the feeling of joy with the music that always comes at this time of year. The word “carol” translates to “dancing to something”, originating from pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations as people danced round stone circles in Europe. This all began in AD 129, when a Roman Bishop said that a song called “Angel’s Hymn” should be sung at a Christmas service in Rome. When Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans came to power in England in 1647, the celebration of Christmas and singing carols was stopped. However, the carols survived as people still sang them in secret. Carols have survived through thick and thin. Since then, people have gathered to partake in the celebration of carols and music of the holiday season as a way to share friendship and happiness.
