Schaumburg Library Comic Con 2016

Giovanni Alvarado, Arts and Entertainment Editor/Reporter

Joliet Central students got the honor to meet Super Man and Batman, and even some favorite Star Wars protagonist and antagonist, along with favorite anime characters like Naruto and Pikachu this Saturday, March 5. Like they say, if you can’t beat em, join em! My friend Nick Lamb and I went as twins of the famous black swordsmen himself, Kirito, from Sword Art Online as fans fanboyed and fangirled to take pictures with their favorite superhero or anime protagonist. Comic Con was held at the same place as last years at the Schaumburg Library where it offered a variety of games and activities for all ages to enjoy. It commenced with a costume parade that you could participate and sign up at the Library’s reception desk where you could show off your cool costume or cosplay of your favorite character.

For the younger crowd, there was a “kidsZone” where local comic vendors Keith’s Komix and Dreamland Comics where for sale and a “kidsZone Craft Room” where family crafts could be made. For the teens like me, it offered a “Teen Place” in second floor of the Library where art comic exhibits were being shown and discussed, even manga hour drawing classes. It fascinated me and much of the crowd on how directors and comic artist do their job and directing of their art into what becomes a movie or cartoon. There was also a digital production studio where you could “Become a Movie Star” as you can get placed in your choice of four movie posters for a picture. Even for the mature adult crowds, a café in the first main floor had many sweets and delicious beverages that you could purchase at your leisure, even the sandwiches were a big hit. The second floor also offered an “Adult Classroom” where comic instructors discussed the evolution of comic art and design to today.

Whether you came to see comics, your favorite superhero or character, show off your cool cosplay, or even just come out of the house to spend time with friends, Comic Con 2016 at the Schaumburg Library had nothing but fun and joyful smiles for all to enjoy. Joliet Central students can’t wait in hopes for next year’s Comic Con 2017.

This is your host Kirito, logging out till next year!
