2016-2017 Steelmen Trifecta

Cain Paluga, Reporter

The first leg of the three part annual Steelmen Trifecta has come and gone with a total of 114 members of the student body, twelve teachers, two members of our security staff, and our police liaison officer participating in the event. During the 2013-2014 school year, the Steelmen Trifecta was created by Mrs. Cailteux and Mr. Lundgren to give students the possibility to get some exercise without interfering with any clubs or sports. Students who complete all three races receive a free dry fit jacket for their efforts. In its inaugural year, only eight students completed all three races in the Trifecta, the number then rose to 34 students in the 2014-2015 school year, last year in the 2015-2016 school year, the number once again increased to 63 students completing each race. The trifectas are seen as fun ways to stay active for everyone, whether you walk, jog, run, or sprint, and everyone enjoys themselves and leaves feeling energized and good about themselves for the duration of the school day. At these races, a large variety of students can be seen including football players, cheerleaders, cross country runners, students involved with arts, band students, even students who don’t participate in anything, the trifecta welcomes all. The races are put on by the health and medicine academy with monetary support by donating companies. With the large push for the get out-get fit-get social movement, the Steelmen Trifecta is seen as a very accessible positive way to stay in shape while having fun in the process.
