Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration that takes place every year from September 15 to October 15. During Hispanic Heritage Month, more than 25 countries are being honored; some of the countries are Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, and many others are also celebrated. The month is celebrated nationwide with many festivals, parades, conferences, community events, and more. Many people take this month’s celebration seriously, while others don’t. During this month, Joliet Central hosted some events like the Hispanic Heritage soccer game, and there was a spirit week for the Steelmen to wear their favorite soccer jersey, wearing their Hispanic attire, meaning they were wearing their boots, belts, and Mexican-style dresses. Certain colors represent Hispanic culture. These colors are yellow, orange, red, brown, blue, and green. This year in Joliet, there was a parade, like there has been every year. It took place in a different location this year; it was in downtown Joliet. It had always taken place on Collins St., and as always, there were horse riders, dancers, people riding ATVs, and many more things at the parade. There was also a Fiesta en La Calle party. It was downtown Joliet; there was food and music that everyone was enjoying. Overall, Hispanic Heritage Month is important to many people, and it represents the good culture and independence of their country.
