The Joliet West Orchestra concert took place on Friday, October 18th. It started at 6 P.M. in the West High School gym. The concert involved 6th graders to highschool students playing amazing songs. This was the first concert in fall of 2024 and there were many different orchestra instructors from all different schools. For example, Mr. Lipari from both West and Central High School, then we have Ms. Tater and Mr. Hunt from Gompers and Hufford Junior High School, which also involved the students they taught in those schools. First the highschoolers played their dramatic and hard worked songs. Then, the middle schoolers played some of their songs after the highschoolers. Leonel, one of the orchestra players mentioned, “I thought it was really fun to play here today with some fun and different types of music.” Audience members could identify right away that when all the kids were playing together, it caught many people’s interests and attention. One could tell that some people were intrigued by the music they chose for the month. They decided to go with a spooky type vibe for the music since it was the spooky month.
At the Joliet West Orchestra event, people learned that as of recently within these past few months, orchestra/band leaders introduced their instruments to the 5th graders to see if they were interested and wanted to start playing themselves. That’s why the elementary 5th graders were not included in this concert for the simple fact that they were beginners.
This first concert was a thrilling experience. Next concerts are going to be very festive and joyful experiences. Experience it yourself at the next concert!
