Pink Heals is a fundraiser held by Joliet high schools volleyball program Central and West that puts its donations towards breast cancer within our community. Athletes in these programs sold shirts, long sleeves and hoodies in a way to raise awareness and show support to those fighting. Once a year they dedicate a game in honor of those around us and this year it is held on West’s Campus. Doors open at four o’clock where you can watch the junior varsity and freshman teams compete. Unfortunately our Steelmen Varsity team lost 25-9 and 25-8 and our JV Steelmen team. Followed by their games there will be a survivor walk and then the big competition between varsity. On top of these events there will be a 50/50 raffle held and a pink fire truck for those who want to give a little more and post their awareness for everyone to see. Just last year these two school rivals put their rivalry aside and together raised $7,775.63. However, aside from raising money, pink heals unites the community by bring us together at a volleyball game to support and honor the survivors and fighters that are dealing with Breast Cancer. Michelle, a cancer survivor, got to walk in the survivor walk escorted by fiancé and Steelmen Varsity Assistant Coach, Elise Piagentini. Michelle’s mother, Margaret Bluth, commented on the game, “The game was amazing. You could feel the excitement and positive vibes all around.” We hope to see you this year on Monday, October 16, 2023 to enjoy a little competition and fun activities but most importantly be yet another ally to those in battle.
