On September 21st, the Joliet Central Girls Cross Country team competed in a Flight Race at the Channahon Community Park. Minooka High School hosted a flight cross-country race, with Joliet Central competing in a total of six races. Each race overlapped by five minutes, with Coach Halusek making sure everyone was okay and making sure everyone was getting to their box on time to start their race. When Coach Halusek was interviewed, she was asked “What was your overall opinion on the Flight Race”, to which she replied, “The Minooka Flight race is a very challenging race. I thought it was a great opportunity for us to really push ourselves which I saw from everyone. It was a hot day, everyone was tough and did the best they could in their races and I think overall a fantastic day”. Another question asked was “Who do you believe had the best performance in the flight race?”, with Coach Halusek commenting, “I would have to say some of the top performance of that day would definitely be Maddie (Madison King) she placed third in the championship round at a very hot time during the day so that was some very challenging competition so that was awesome to see. We also had people PR in that race even the open race which was the hottest race of the day so that was great seeing that they were able to push through and run their best race like Vicky (Victoria Choncoa) and Jocelyn (Jocelyn Rodrigues) had PRs which was great.” The last question asked to Coach Halusek was “If you could go back in time would you do anything differently?” She said “I don’t think so. I think that our training really led up to a successful day at the flight races. And I think that we were well-conditioned and we worked on speed throughout the season leading up. Other than those things I don’t think I would really change anything”. Overall the Girls Cross Country Team did amazing in the Minooka Flight Race.
