On Friday, October 11, Joliet Central hosted the Girls Cross Country Senior Night against Bremen at Channahon Community Park. The Girls Cross Country 2024 team had four seniors, including Dianna Mascote, Valeria Damian, Yusei Muniz, and Joselin Pensado. All four girls worked absolutely hard and had an amazing season! Though most of the girls had ran many races throughout this season and previous ones, this race was very important for them because it is a race to celebrate and recognize them for the support they have given the team. “This race meant so much to me, it was a reminder that my time with the team was coming to an end and I had yet to break my personal record,” said Dianna Mascote. Not only did these girls push themselves to have their best three miles of the season, they had to keep a positive mentality to stay motivated all throughout the race. “I was incredibly lucky to have my best friend running this race with me…my best friend, Madison King, helped me beat my personal record. She kept me on track with reminders to take deep breaths and reassurance that I was able to pass the girls ahead of me…I was able to beat my personal record and get first in the race due to Maddie’s support” stated Mascote. These four girls had an amazing race, with the support of family, friends, teammates and the amazing crowd from both teams. After the race the four girls were given a flower and a metal with a message for all the girls the flower was a sign of appreciation from the runners to the person who was next to them on their big senior night. This night was a night for the whole team to remember and a message for all the girls on the team.
