On October 18, the Freshman Boys Soccer team had their last and final day of the season, ending with a great 5-2 win against Providence, making it a great game. Previous to this final game, the Freshman Steelmen had played Providence at home, reigning victorious but wanted to go for the sweep in beating Providence at their home field. It was a difficult match, filled with challenges the boys overcame. The boys had also ended first in the conference and won the Wolfpack Tournament. It wasn’t easy getting to where the Freshman team is now. Coach Villagomez, when asked what it took to get where the team is now, replied, “It was all in our mentality, we took it seriously, and we didn’t take losing for an answer at a certain point”. Indeed they did not take losing for an answer, they ended the amazing run on a 15-3-2 season record. The Steelmen immediately saw the recognition with many students commenting on their great win. Coach Villagomez was especially proud, he looked forward to seeing the improvement, and in addition stated how much the team improved over the season, stating “You guys know how to play now– organization is better, and you guys think when you play”. Many people, including the players, are hoping to continue their great run next season. In addition, the Freshman team ended with the greatest record and overall performance within the JTHS soccer program, the players will be hoping to stay in great shape once soccer conditioning and soccer camp roll around. Overall, the boys exceeded expectations from looking at what they accomplished, from number one in the conference to tournament champions. They will continue to perform the way they did if they maintain that mentality, hopefully winning plenty of games and important tournaments for the next three years they have ahead of them.
