The Varsity Cheer team led by Amanda Wisslead made it to state. On February 7, the team performed at the Grossinger Motors Arena. The day of the competition the school was able to provide a fan bus for students to go and cheer on the team. The week before State The Varsity Cheer team competed at sectionals and placed 2nd place and because of that they were state bound. From there on out they have worked incredibly hard and practiced day and night.
The day before they left for state they hosted a send off to celebrate their big accomplishment. What made it more special is the fact that this is the first time in five years that the Varsity Cheer team made it to state and it’s the first time coach Wisslead was able to lead her team to state. After state Amanda Wisslead was interviewed about her experience at state and she said “On the day of IHSA State, I felt a ton of different emotions, but mainly proud. I was not nervous for the team to perform, because I knew that they had the proper training and would do what [was] needed to be done. I felt proud that they had made it all the way to state and were fully prepared to perform.” She was so confident about her team because of the amount of preparation her and the other coaches provided. She also said, “ I was very happy with how the team performed at state! It was so rewarding to watch the team perform their routine one last time together at the IHSA State Finals!”
Overall the Varsity Cheer team has had an amazing season and a great impact on the community. Now people have been inspired to join the team next year. We are incredibly proud of our team.
