On February 18, 2025, Human Relations sponsors and club members went on a field trip to Chinatown to learn more about its diverse culture. The sponsor, Mrs. Luangsomkham, initally brought up this field trip when asking the club members about the activities they would like to do this year.
Human Relations Club does this Chinatown field trip annually, meaning it wasn’t the first time they went to understand its culture. All the previous times they went were similar to the present 2025 trip because they all had the goal of understanding Chinese culture. This year it was supported by the Foundation Grant, so students were able to attend for only $5. But that didn’t stop them from learning things about the area’s history and how it changed as people immigrated from other countries. “We learned some phrases in Chinese and talked about the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Snake,” Mrs. Dobersztyn a participant in the trip. “ Then we had a wonderful family-style lunch of Dim Sum and other Chinese dishes. After lunch, Students could shop in the area and get souvenirs, boba tea, and other tasty treats for dessert.” It was quite a cold day, but they had so much fun and overall the experience was a moment the club members and sponsor couldn’t forget. Now, all we can do is wait until the future to see what happens and wait for more developments. At the end of the day, this trip has shown how understanding cultures can be seen through different scopes in life and how this makes it all worth the risks even if those risks are shown in fun ways.
